Coding for Children: Reasons Why Children Should Start!
Coding for Kids | STEAM Education for Kids
Coding for children seems like an impossible effort,
right? It is very similar to literally learning a completely new language.
Therefore, asking children to visualize themselves
with the ability to, for example, create an application, is a rather difficult
task in itself.
We've all been there ... a blank slate can be a very
scary and overwhelming obstacle. “Are you coding me? How will I get to a point
where coding is easy? When can I use this new skill to complete a finished
project?
Statements like these have stopped many ... even
before giving themselves the opportunity to start.
Think about it: first, you've got to plan, then
you've got to find out, then you've got to be adequate to make. But before
learning, you have to decide what you are going to learn, and you must have a
great understanding that what you are learning will pay some kind of dividend
when everything is said and done.
Why should children learn to code?
Years ago, when all these children and the talk
about codes began, I could have characterized that it has an exaggeration
because the whole idea was new and novel for the educational system. And,
although this peak of "learning to code" popularity was not unfounded
in any way, time was really the only thing he could tell us if everything was
going to be a big flash in the pan.
Well, here we are.
Time has passed, however, we are still seeing STEM
education statistics as, by 2018, 2.4 million STEM jobs will be left uncovered.
And others, like 71% of all new jobs in STEM, are in engineering science, but
only 8% of STEM graduates are in engineering science. People still wonder if
coding is difficult to learn.
We have officially advanced beyond simply saying
"the coding is great, so go and do it", end of the story. Instead, we
are now saying, "the coding is, in fact, great, so go hump, but you want
to also hump because you may be rewarded as a result."
In other words, there are jobs, many of them, and
jobs that pay very well.
What makes this even better is
that it's not just the work or the freshness either (this would be a much
shorter blog post if that were the case). But also creativity, problem-solving,
collaboration, communication, and other mature skills to improve as by-products
of children who learn to code.
